Sheets 28 to 35, Southern Blvd to Sloan's Curve, is the area of Palm Beach now known as Billionaires row
If look closely at the property owners names from the 1930's you will see a virtual Who's Who of some of the most notable persons of the era
Jane Greer
Donald G. Geddes - Director of Western Union - Stock Broker
Genessee Corp.
Irene Jackson Sloan - Wife of Alfred Pritchard Sloan Jr. Alfred was an American business executive in the automotive industry. He was a long-time president, chairman and CEO of General Motors Corporation. Sloan, first as a senior executive and later as the head of the organization, helped GM grow from the 1920s through the 1950s, The decades when concepts such as the annual model change, brand architecture, industrial engineering, automotive design (styling), and planned obsolescence transformed the industry.
Sloan's curve did not exist when this atlas was printed. A1A as it is known now, S. R. 1, then, continued along the beach all the way to Manalapan. In 1947 a hurricane washed out part of the road and the road was moved inland after filling the area along Lake Worth. Thus creating Sloan's curve. Also, at one time the island South of this sheet was part of the City of Lake Worth. Just across the Intracoastal Waterway from here is the dividing line between West Palm Beach and Lake Worth.
This copy shows S.R. 1 running along the dune and does not show Sloan's Curve. Another later copy of this atlas that I have seen shows Sloan's Curve and the road in its present location.
Billionaires row ends here and Condominium row starts
